Senior Research Scientist at Carnegie Mellon University

Kasun Amarasinghe is a Senior Research Scientist at the Data Science for Social Good Lab at Carnegie Mellon University, where he conducts research at the intersection of Machine Learning (ML) and public policy. He develops algorithmic systems to support decisions in public service delivery (e.g., predictive risk modeling for preventing adverse outcomes, optimization of limited resources) and studies the safe deployment of ML systems in these high-stakes settings (e.g., explainability of ML systems, algorithmic fairness). Kasun is also a Research Fellow at the Data, Algorithms, and Policy (DAP) team at LIRNEasia, a public policy research institute in Sri Lanka, where he supports the development of public sector data engineering and data science systems in the South Asian region.
